DADDY'S OBITUARY



Daniel Joseph “Joe” Ryan, Sr.

SANTA FE - Mr. Daniel Joseph “Joe” Ryan, Sr. went to be with the Lord on Monday morning, February 6, 2012, in Santa Fe.

Born March 21, 1932 in Galveston, TX, Mr. Ryan, affectionately known as “PaPa” to many, had been a lifelong resident of Galveston County. He proudly served as a United States Merchant Marine during war times, had been a firefighter for the Galveston Fire Department for 9 years, was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, served as a volunteer with HIS Ministries for 20 years and had been the former owner of several successful businesses, including Ryan’s Ornamental Concrete, bait camps and wholesale fishing companies. Joe enjoyed spending his childhood on Galveston Island, and working cattle as a young boy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Amy Lou (Kitchens) Ryan; parents, Peter M. Ryan and Minnie Bertha (Koch) and Clifford Youngdale; brothers, William, Pete, Jack, and Jerry Ryan; sister, Margie McInernie.

Survivors include his son, Daniel Joseph Ryan, Jr. and wife, Kim of Wichita, KS; daughters, Vickie Lynn Koehler of Santa Fe, Robin Davenport and husband, Doug of Santa Fe, Amy Ann Soylu and husband, Ugur of NC; sisters, Minnie Clawson and husband, Robert of Bayou Vista, Maureen Brown and husband, Clint of La Marque; grandchildren, Shawn Ryan, T. J. Moore, Lacey Ryan, Brandon Koehler, Jordan Davenport, Jared Koehler and Brittany Koehler; great-grandchildren, Madisyn Ryan, Joe Ryan and Jack Ryan; numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2012 in the chapel of Hayes Funeral Home, with Reverend Danny Barrett officiating and Pastor Bill Purdy providing special words and a music tribute. Interment will follow at Hayes Grace Memorial Park Cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Doug Davenport, Jordan Davenport, Brandon Koehler, Jared Koehler, T. J. Moore, Daniel Ryan, Larry Ryan, Shawn Ryan, Ugur Soylu and Earl Wills.

By no means am I a great seamstress. I can't even do buttons or zippers. Maybe one day I will learn, though. I am more of a crafty sewer. These are just some of my projects I have made. They are simple but I am proud of them all the same.
